In honor of Pi Day, I figured I should check out why other Yelpers have been raving about Jo Jo's... They're something to rave about or at least their small meats pizza is rave worthy. The serve was quick and the ambience gave me a oldies "OG." I would totally return for another pizza Pi.

We love going here on Mondays for the half off pizza. The pizza dough is a lighter dough with a nice crisp. Its usually busy but worth a stop in or take out.

A landmark. Been going here on and off for 35 years. This review is based on carry-out, as we haven't dined in in over 20 years. That said, the pizza is good, with a very distinctive sauce. And their half-price pizza specials (Mondays and Wednesdays) is one of the best values out there. The service is always friendly, and it's always good to support local. The best part? Unlike at Gino's, you generally don't risk getting mugged when you pick up your pie. The worst part, as one prior reviewer noted, is the Fox News on the big-screen TV in the main dining room. Not a huge deal if you're there for carryout, but WTH? Can't they do what everyone else does - put on some sports?

With the rash of "Chipotle/Subway style" pizza chains currently afflicting Toledo (think 1000 degree blazing pizza fires), I felt compelled to write about another excellent local pizza joint. Jo Jo's Original Pizzeria has been around since 1957, and there's a damned good reason for that: Jo Jo's makes great pizza and they give it to you for affordable prices...it's as simple as that. Style of Pizza: Soft, thin crust with ample perfectly finished cheese, and a tangy sauce. It's not exactly TOLEDO STYLE, but you can't eat at Gino's/Amie's/Mancino's/PizzaCat EVERY day, now can you? Avoiding carbs? You're in luck! The other thing that I really love about Jo Jo's is that they make one of the best antipasto salads in T-Town. The homemade Italian dressing is truly outstanding...my daughter says it's the best Italian dressing in the world! I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say "best in the world," but it's great dressing! The homemade ranch dressing ain't too shabby either, says Mrs P...both of them...my mom and my wife! Aside from lettuce/veggies, green & black olives, and pepperoncini, the antipasto salad features provolone, salami, and pepperoni! In other words, this is a salad "that eats like a pizza," while sparing you the carbs! If you need them to substitute chicken or turkey for the salami/pepperoni, they will. If you want double meat or cheese, you'll pay a little extra, but Jo Jo's will give you what you want. (If you're vegan, there's no point in even ordering an antipasto salad. Duuuuhhhh.) Price: Nothing to complain about in this department...on most days, Jo Jo competes quite nicely with the above-mentioned national chains, AND, on half price pizza nights (Monday and Wednesday), she kicks their lily asses. Decor: It hasn't changed since 1957. Next topic. Service: It's never been an issue. You insist on having your pizza "in five minutes?" Give them a call on the way over, and the pie will be ready for you when you get there. EtOH: Are beer, wine, and booze available? Yes, yes, and yes. Papa Joe's Saloon is next door (and attached) to Jo Jo's. Here's something nice: The Great Black Swamp Brewing Company makes a signature beer especially for Jo Jo's. It's called, appropriately, Jo Jo's Ale, and it's very good. I'd call it "a beer's beer." In the end, with Jo-Jo's and TONS of excellent family owned pizza parlors around The Glass City, there's no good reason to be eating at national chains (other than, or course, Toledo-based Marco's). Jo Jo gets five stars from Mike P and the P family!
